EMDR online trauma therapy

Have you ever felt “stuck” or “frozen in time” when it comes to your traumatic memories? Maybe you get triggered by upsetting thoughts and images, as if you’re literally back in that moment? You have horrible flashbacks and you could swear that you’re right back reliving that traumatic event. You’ve spent years in therapy talking about the same things but nothing changes.

Typically, our brains have a natural way to process traumatic events or memories. It usually involves 3 different parts of the brain: the amygdala, the hippocampus, and the prefrontal cortex. Sometimes, however, our brains don’t process these traumatic events or memories fully and therefore, need a little bit of help.

There’s nothing wrong with you.
It’s not because you’re not trying hard enough to get over it.

I practice EMDR online therapy in Ny & fl, and I can help you.

What Is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a thoroughly researched and scientifically proven form of treatment for trauma. It helps people heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that resulted from disturbing life experiences. EMDR won’t make you forget about the disturbing event but it will free you from the intense emotional and psychological pain associated with the event.

EMDR has been effective in helping children and adults experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Insomnia

  • Panic attacks

  • Addictions

  • Mood swings

  • Performance anxiety

  • Phobias

  • Traumatic or disturbing memories

  • Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

How Does EMDR Work?

EMDR is an 8-phase treatment process. Using “bilateral stimulations” (right/left hand movements), I’ll help you safely revisit the earlier traumatic event. These bilateral stimulations will help you access the part of your brain that holds those memories, reprocess them, and allow those memories to be stored correctly in your brain. As a result, emotions, thoughts, and memories of the event will no longer trigger you. EMDR will also help you uncover and remove certain negative beliefs that developed as a result of those earlier traumatic experiences. I will help you replace those negative beliefs with more positive beliefs about yourself.

Can EMDR Be Done Virtually?

Yes! EMDR can be done virtually through teletherapy sessions. I use a secure, HIPAA compliant  video platform to ensure confidentiality. There are a variety of techniques and methods that I use to administer the bilateral stimulations. If you need EMDR online trauma therapy in Rochester, NY, please reach out to me. I can help.

How Long Does EMDR Take?

That’s really hard to determine; everyone is different. I typically use EMDR in conjunction with traditional talk therapy. I will spend at least one 60-minute session talking to you to determine if EMDR is an appropriate treatment method for you. The amount of sessions EMDR will take really depends on the type of problem, your specific life circumstances, and the amount of previous trauma you’ve had. I do recommend that you allot at least 60-90 minutes for each EMDR session.
